Dear Friendship Family,

On behalf of the trustees of the Friendship Cemetery we bring you greetings.  This past year has provided both challenges and opportunities for family and friends far and wide.  As we prepare for our annual gathering on Memorial Day Sunday, we are writing to give you an update on our planned activities. We will be returning to our regular potluck dinner where we ask our members to bring some food items that can be shared.  Our building will be open and available to have our food served from there.

We will be honoring all veterans who are buried in the cemetery.  There are approximately 40 military headstones that are in the cemetery.  We know that there are numerous others who have served but who have traditional headstones.  If your family member is in that group please let us know the name and years active.

Our schedule of activities will begin at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 29th at 1:00 p.m. Maxine Davis from Shawnee will be offering a couple of songs for our enjoyment.  Back by popular demand this year with his drums and storytelling will be our cousin Jahruba Lambeth.

We are excited to announce the launch of our new Friendship Cemetery website.  It can be found at www.friendshipcemeterynewalla.org  The website committee has worked tirelessly over the past year to collect, edit and design what you will see.  It will be updated and expanded as we move forward.  Please share the website with anyone who may not be receiving our letter.  Also let us know anything that you may want to see on the website to make it more useful and informative.

Those of you on our mailing list should have received our letter with an enclosed stamped envelope that you may use to send your dues of $50 for this year. Our dues take care of the ongoing maintenance and operation of our cemetery.  All of the trustees volunteer their time and talent to our beloved grounds. Those not on the mailing list may send their payments to:

If you see something that needs to be done to improve our cemetery, please let one of us know.

The Stella Homecoming will take place on Sunday, August 14th at the Union School/Church house at Southeast 149th and Luther Road.  Please contact Vernon Glenn Alexander at 405-226-9437 for further information.

We look forward to seeing you and your family out for what promises to be an exciting time.  Bring a lawn chair to sit and enjoy some of the festivities of the day. Please consider wearing your Friendship t-shirt.
